Chantmarle extension wins Highly Commended Award at the Northern LABC Building Excellence Awards 2018

A large, 3-storey extension to a 200 year old stone cottage in County Durham wins Highly Commended Award at the Northern LABC Building Excellence Awards 2018 in the 'Best Extension or Alteration to an Existing Home' category. The architectural design and project management were carried out by new bold design and the contractor was H+M Construction

The property is in a Conservation Area and the matching stone extension incorporates a lift providing wheelchair access to the new garage, living room and bedroom with en-suite wetroom. Extensive internal alterations were carried out to make the whole house fully wheelchair accessible. The build quality of the new extension and the addition of solar PV panels on the south-facing roof plus a Tesla Powerwall 2 battery in the garage enabled the EPC rating to be raised from Band F to Band C

Greendale Cottage Wins top Northern award


Building on the recent success of Elm Tree House in winning a local LABC award in May, new bold design has won the award for Best Individual New Home at the 2014 Northern LABC Building Excellence Awards held at The Hilton Hotel in Newcastle.


Greendale Cottage is the first Band A passive house in County Durham, providing a very low energy home and office in a Conservation Area and the Upper Weardale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty



Elm Tree House wins LABC Building Excellence Award


New Bold Design’s latest special needs housing adaptation project has won Best Extension or Alteration to an Existing Building in the 2014 LABC Building Excellence Awards. The award was presented to Philip Newbold by Sunderland City Council at The Stadium of Light on 1 May. The Contractor, WCL Construction, also shared the award and the project has now been shortlisted for the regional LABC Awards in July
